He said, ‘Democracy is a culture that is developed step by step through regular practice. For this, free, fair and impartial elections are necessary. At the same time, to keep democracy effective, it is necessary to give adequate space to the opponents and opposition parties. And that is the beauty of democracy. Democracy must be allowed to run effectively at its own pace.’
At the time, the President said, ‘Dhaka University is not only the country’s top university, but also the center of the country’s politics, history, tradition and culture.’
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for further enhancing the quality of education at Dhaka University and taking it to the ranks of the world’s leading universities.
During the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Mirza Fakhrul Islam congratulated Alamgir on being elected as the President and informed the President about the overall academic activities of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor formally invited the President to attend the upcoming 54th convocation ceremony as the Chancellor. The President accepted the invitation and assured to attend the ceremony.
The President’s Military Secretary, Secretary and Press Secretary, and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer of Dhaka University were present during the meeting.
