Speakers expressed their opinion in a discussion meeting here today that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a pioneer of world peace.
They said, ‘Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is a pioneer of world peace. Therefore, he was awarded the Joliot-Curie Award.’
They expressed this opinion at a function organized to uphold the historical value of Bangabandhu’s Joliot-Curie Award organized by the Joliot-Curie Bangabandhu Shishu-Kishor Shanti Sangsad at the National Press Club.
He was awarded the Joliot-Curie Peace Prize by the World Peace Council on 23 May 1973 for his distinguished contribution to the establishment of a non-sectarian peaceful independent country and a society free from terrorism and peaceful.
The World Peace Council has been awarding awards to distinguished individuals and organizations since 1950 to commemorate the contributions of world-renowned scientists Marie Curie and Pierre Curie to the struggle for world peace.
Past recipients of the Joliot-Curie Prize include world leaders such as Fidel Castro, Ho Chi Minh, Yasser Arafat, Salvador Allende, Nelson Mandela, Indira Gandhi, Mother Teresa, poet and politician Pablo Neruda, Jawaharlal Nehru, Martin Luther King and Leonid Brezhnev.
Speakers said, Bangabandhu’s historical award will guide the younger generation and his honor will shine in the history of mankind.
Jolio-Curie Bangabandhu Shishu-Kishore Shanti Sangsad organizes art competition, discussion, cultural program and award distribution ceremony among the winners.
