Own Correspondent: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader commented that Pakistan appreciates the development of Bangladesh, but the opposition party does not see the development. He said, they (opposition party) see the darkness of night in the light of day. They (opposition party) are showing low mentality about the development of the country. They should understand the reality from the speech of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Obaidul Quader gave this speech at a press conference at the Awami League president’s political office in Dhanmondi, the capital, on Friday afternoon.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif was ashamed to see the progress of Bangladesh. In the past, East Pakistan was considered a burden to them. Now he has moved on to development. He (Shahbaz) was ashamed to see that development. As much as BNP spreads propaganda, they have a lot of real truth to learn from Shahbaz Sharif’s statement.

Bangladesh’s human rights situation has not improved – Obaidul Quader said in response to a question about such a report by the United States, what level of human rights has been reached by what Israel is doing in Gaza. 14,000 children, 35,000 people have been killed and more are being killed every day. He also said that the United States could not even hear Netanyahu talk about a ceasefire. They don’t listen to anyone. US Congress funds Israel. That means helping to incite war. Let them (US) clarify their position on this genocide, the worst example of human rights abuse.

No one obeyed the instructions to withdraw the candidature of the relatives of the minister-MP in the upazila elections. In response to the question whether party discipline has broken or not, the Awami League general secretary said, ‘There is still time to withdraw. Can withdraw at any time. See the end. But I have said that action will be taken in time if the instructions of the party are disobeyed.

The Chief Election Commissioner has expressed the fear of conflict in the upazila elections. Obaidul Quader said in response to the journalists’ questions in this regard, he may fear conflict. We have a responsibility to avoid conflicts, our efforts will continue.

It is known that 67 people from BNP have participated in the upazila elections so far. BNP has decided to take action on them. Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said, ‘We are neither supporting nor opposing here. BNP will see to BNP’s affairs.

In response to a question about BNP’s movement, the bridge minister said, is it a sign that the movement is getting violent, from the mass uprising to the distribution of leaflets? Or is it a sign that the movement is slowly fizzling out (failing).

Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nashim, Organizing Secretary BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam, Afzal Hossain, Sujit Roy Nandi, Health Affairs Secretary Rokeya Sultana, Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, Deputy Secretary Sayem Khan and others were also present in the press conference.
