Navi Pillai, the winner of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, made a funny joke about US President Donald Trump after receiving the award.
Attending a conference in Germany, he smiled and told the crowd, “If you clap a little more, maybe I can share this award with Trump!”
Donald Trump has long expressed a strong desire to receive this prestigious Nobel Prize and has pressured the committee in various ways in the past. He has even claimed to have stopped many wars.
The White House expressed strong anger when another person was given the award last year.
Meanwhile, the Nobel Committee said that the prize was awarded to Navi Pillay in recognition of the work of those who are fighting against war crimes and genocide at a time when international law and justice are under threat in the world today. The prominent South African legal expert previously played a key role in the fight against apartheid on behalf of Nelson Mandela and as a judge at the International Criminal Tribunal.
