Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that foreign technical assistance will be taken for the judicial investigation committee formed by the government to ensure a fair and standard investigation of the quota reform movement.
The Prime Minister said this when German Ambassador Achim Troster called on the Prime Minister at his official residence Ganabhaban on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister said, ‘We will take foreign technical assistance for the Judicial Inquiry Committee to ensure that it is proper, quality and of high standard.’
After the meeting, the press secretary of the Prime Minister. Naemul Islam Khan briefed the journalists.
The government has formed a judicial investigation committee under the leadership of Justice Khandkar Diliruzzaman of the High Court to investigate all the deaths centered on the quota reform movement in the country.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister said that Bangladesh has already contacted the United Nations (UN) about taking assistance in this investigation.
The press secretary said, ‘The United Nations has expressed its interest and Bangladesh has also expressed its interest.’
German Ambassador Achim Troster said that his country will also stand by Bangladesh. He also said that Germany has a long-standing relationship with Bangladesh and it will continue.
Regarding religious extremism, the ambassador said, Germany has no sympathy for those who support religious extremism. They are strongly hopeful of the Prime Minister’s recent speech that there will be an independent inquiry.
He said, ‘If the investigation committee identifies the miscreants, they will be prosecuted.’
Achim Troster attributes the embassy’s slow visa process to Bangladesh not to lack of goodwill but to resource constraints. He regretted the unintended delay in the visa process.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Germany.
The German ambassador today expressed his condolences on the day of mourning declared by the government to honor those who lost their lives, including members of law enforcement, amid the quota reform movement.
