The High Court said, all deaths are tragic. We are ashamed of the violence and death of people during the anti-quota movement.
The bench comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolan made this comment during the hearing on Tuesday (July 30) on the writ petition seeking an order not to fire during the movement.
The court said that everything is written in the constitution and law. But none of us are following the constitution, the law.
Barrister Sara Hossain, Advocate ZI Khan Panna, Barrister Aneek R Haque, Advocate Manzoor Al Matin Pritam heard the writ petition in the court. Additional Attorney General SM Munir, Additional Attorney General Sheikh Md. Morsed and Additional Attorney General Barrister Mehdi Hasan Chowdhury.
Earlier, on Monday, a writ was filed seeking a direction not to fire on the agitators and a direction to release six coordinators of the quota reform movement from DB custody. Supreme Court lawyer Manzoor Al Mateen Pritam and Ainunnahar Siddiqa filed the writ.
The Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Army Chief and others have been made defendants in the writ.
