Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 14 years in prison last January for illegally selling state gifts. However, while Imran Khan was in jail, Bushra was under house arrest in Islamabad. A court of the country has now ordered him to be transferred to prison.
Such an order was given in view of an application made by Bushra Bibi. News from Reuters.
The Pakistani government had so far ordered Bushra under house arrest citing security concerns. But Bushra Bibi challenged the house arrest order in court. His lawyer Naeem Panjutha said this in a post on social media.
Bushra Bibi’s lawyers petitioned the Islamabad High Court to transfer her to jail. Today (Wednesday) the court granted that application.
A statement by Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said the court ordered Bushra Bibi’s transfer to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. 70-year-old Imran Khan is in that prison.
Imran’s house in Islamabad was declared a sub-jail. Imran’s party said Bushra had alleged that the authorities were feeding him poisoned food while under house arrest. However, the authorities denied the allegations.
