Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Jamaat-Shibir terrorists had initially entered under the guise of participants in the quota reform movement, maintaining a low profile. But later they came dangerously to the forefront of the movement.
The Prime Minister said this while meeting the Ambassador of Spain to Bangladesh, Gabriel Maria Cistiaga Ochoa de Chinchicru, at the Ganabhaban today. Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Md. Naimul Islam Khan briefed the journalists after the meeting.
Sheikh Hasina said that the terrorists have actually attacked those establishments which are highlighting the success that the government has achieved after working for the welfare of the people.
In this context, he mentioned the Covid Hospital, Metrorail, Expressway, Setu Bhavan, Disaster Management Bhavan and Data Centre.
He said that all our symbols of development, which gave comfort and convenience to the people, have been destroyed.
Regarding the deployment of the army, the Prime Minister said, the army members have shown the highest level of patience in this situation.
He also mentioned that about 21 members of his party Awami League were killed in this violence.
Regarding helping all those killed or injured irrespective of party affiliation, the Prime Minister said, I did not consider party identity while helping them.
Sheikh Hasina mentioned that the government is taking effective steps for the survival and livelihood of the family members of the deceased and providing financial assistance and free treatment to the injured.
The Spanish ambassador praised the deployment of troops and imposition of curfew for the sake of peace and prosperity, saying things are slowly improving now.
The ambassador noted that he understands and appreciates the measures taken to ensure peace and progress.
He said, “I watched everything on television but could not understand them properly due to language difference, but from newspapers I came to know about the destructive activities and the destruction from the fights.”
The ambassador said that he is the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Hasan visited some vandal sites with Mahmud.
The ambassador said that the budget allocation for education, health and social security sectors in Bangladesh confirms the government’s sincerity in the welfare of the people. He noted that such budgetary support does not exist in many countries.
At that time, Ambassador at Large Mohammad Ziauddin, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Md Tofajzel Hossain Mia and Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Masud Bin Momen were present.
