‘Junior’s friend’ on 4-day remand: Tahsif murder

A court has granted a four-day remand to former Air Force Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Sauri and his ‘junior friend’ Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip, who was arrested in the murder case.

The remand was granted after a hearing in the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyas on Saturday (October 31).

Dweep was taken to the court in a police car around 2:15 pm. He was later kept in custody. The police applied for a seven-day remand for questioning in the interest of investigating the case.

Tahsif’s father, KM Enayetul Karim Helal, filed a murder case after his body was recovered from the Turag River in Uttarkhan in the capital. The case was filed at Uttarkhan Police Station on Friday (October 30) night.

Tahsif’s junior friend Shahriar Reza Dwip has been arrested in this case. The naval police sent him to the court seeking a seven-day remand for questioning.

Additional Superintendent of Police of the Dhaka Range of the Naval Police, Md. Mostafa Kamal, said that Tahsif’s father has filed a murder case with Uttarkhan Police Station. More information about the incident will be known after the remand interrogation. Although the case is with Uttarkhan Police Station, the Naval Police will investigate.

Earlier, Tahsif left his house on Tuesday evening. The next day, he jumped into the Turag River in the Mazar Basti area of Tongi. Information about his jumping was received from pillar number 29 of the river’s boundary wall. Later, his body was recovered from the Rajabari Ghat area of the Turag River under Uttarkhan Police Station.

The Naval Police is investigating what happened in Tahsif’s death. Earlier on Thursday night, the PBI took Dweep into custody from Mohammadpur for questioning.

During interrogation, Dwip said that Tahsif jumped into the river after being chased by some people including the police in the Tongi Mazar slum area on Tuesday night. According to Dwip, the motorcycle used by Tahsif was recovered from the Honda alley in the Mazar slum area by the PBI. The PBI visited the scene with Dwip on Friday. Later that night, the agency handed over Dwip to the naval police.
