There is no extortion on the streets, the price of vegetables has started to decrease

All kinds of vegetables were going out of touch in terms of prices for a long time. To say that there was no vegetable under 80 rupees in the market. Vendors have been complaining about street extortion. But for the last few days there is no extortion anywhere. Because of that, the price of vegetables in the market has started to decrease. However, traders say that the reason for the higher prices of vegetables is that some vegetables are not in season, so their prices are higher.

On Friday (August 9), such information was obtained by visiting different markets of the capital.

In today’s market, potal is sold at Tk 50 per kg, gourd at Tk 40 to Tk 50, misty pumpkin at Tk 40 per kg, papaya at Tk 40, kachur mukhi at Tk 80 per kg, radish at Tk 50, gourd at Tk 50 to Tk 60 per piece, red brinjal at Tk 60, Chichinga Tk 50, Kachur Lati Tk 60, Jhinga Tk 70, Dhundal Tk 80, Cucumber Tk 80, Chilli Tk 280 and Potato Tk 60.

On the other hand, in the list of vegetables whose prices are higher due to non-season, tomato is being sold at Tk 160 per kg, carrot at Tk 120, cabbage at Tk 120 and bitter gourd at Tk 100 per kg.

Atiq Hasan, a private employee, has come to the capital’s Malibagh market to market on weekends. He said that the price of vegetables in the market today is a little lower than before. It seems that the price of vegetables has started to come down. However, the prices of some vegetables remain high. In between, the prices of vegetables increased excessively, to say that there was no vegetable in the market below 80 rupees. Compared to that, the price of vegetables has started to decrease in the market today.

Regarding the price of vegetables, Abdur Rahman, a vegetable seller in the capital’s Moghbazar area, said that the price of vegetables has decreased compared to before. The prices of vegetables were already increasing, but for a few days, vegetables could not be transported from different parts of the country due to student agitation, curfew. At that time, the price of all kinds of vegetables increased. Compared to that, the price of vegetables has started to decrease. Besides, another big reason is that earlier there was extortion on the streets, you had to pay money when sitting in a shop, while bringing vegetables in a pickup, it was spent in various places including traffic. Currently, we are able to sell vegetables at a lower price than earlier due to the absence of that cost.

Referring to the issue of extortion in various places including the road, a vegetable trader named Shariful Islam of Caravan Bazaar said that the extortion started from the place where a truck first brings vegetables, then the extortion was taken in different places including the traffic on the road. After entering the caravan market, one had to pay money at different places.

He said, after the small businessmen bought these goods, they also had to pay various fees to go to different areas of Dhaka. After that, where vegetable vans or shops sit, the local influencers used to take money for daily road expenses and line men. But in the present time, no money has to be paid for some time, no one is doing any kind of extortion. As a result, the prices of all types of vegetables have started to come down.
