State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat has commented that it is undesirable and sad to hold Udichi events and make negative statements ignoring the instructions issued by the government in the interest of public safety. He made this comment in his office at the secretariat on Monday.

In protest of the ‘shrinkage’ during the Payala Boishakh celebrations, the Udichi Shilpa group held a cultural program at Shahabagh in the capital last Sunday after six o’clock in the evening. In this regard, the Minister of State for Information said that it was obstinate and sad that the Udichi artistes group performed the program by ignoring the instructions issued by the government’s security agency to ensure the safety of Poyala Boishakh. The government is very saddened and shocked by their behavior.

If there was an accident in the institute of Udichi by disobeying the government ban, who would be responsible? Putting this question, the state minister said, ‘We think that those who perform the ceremony without following the rules or instructions, they should take that responsibility.’

Mohammad Ali Arafat said that many people lost their lives and many were maimed in the bomb attacks at Ramna Batmule and Jessore’s Udichi events on the first Baisakh. A number of policemen sacrificed their lives and saved the lives of people while preventing terrorist attacks at Holi Artizan in Gulshan, Sholakia Maidan in Kishoreganj and Eid Jamaat in Sylhet. As the government is always careful to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property in every event, no terrorist attack or terrorist incident could happen in Bangladesh in the recent past.

The Minister of State for Information also said that the year 1993 (1400 Bengal) is the centenary of Bengal

Khaleda Zia’s government blocked the reception. Their ban is not for security reasons, but to discourage this universal, non-communal Bengali festival. All the organizations believing in the spirit of liberation war under the leadership of Bangabandhukanya and Bangladesh Awami League celebrated the first Baisakh at Suhrawardy Udyan.
