Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, after the launch of Bangabandhu-1 satellite in 2018, Bangabandhu Satellite-2 has been in discussion for a long time. When will Bangladesh’s second satellite go into space? We are now preparing for it.
He said these things at the awarding ceremony of the video film making competition titled ‘Amar Kehe Bangabandhu’ at Ganobhaban on Sunday (June 2) morning.
Sheikh Hasina said, “Many are told what was the need for satellites!” There are some people in our country who don’t like everything. Whatever they do, they say it was necessary. What is the need for Metrorail, Expressway! Waste of money! They walk with such a negative attitude. When I make it again, it is very fun to use.
The Prime Minister said, “When I boarded Air Emirates, I used to see that subscriptions were collected for children, there is the name of Bangladesh.” My self-esteem started. After I came to the government, I said that this thing should not exist. After we arrived we ensured food security, education. We said we will not touch anyone.’
He said, ‘When we came to power in 1996, we emphasized on computer education. Everything was analog back then. The second time we came to power, we announced that we will do digital Bangladesh. Now we have satellites.’
He also said, ‘Beggars have no dignity. After 1975 we became a nation of beggars. When I used to go abroad, when I heard about Bangladesh, I would say – you have famines, storms, tides and floods there. Very merciful.’
