Yemen has launched an attack on the Houthis.
Yemeni government forces have confirmed that they have carried out precision drone strikes targeting various Houthi positions, Anadolu Agency reported on Saturday (September 12).
The Nations Shield Forces said in a statement that the drone strike was carried out against the Houthis in Al-Dhale, Yemen. They also released video footage of the attack, which showed the airstrike on a gathering of dozens of Houthi members. There was no immediate comment from the Houthis.
After several years of relative peace, the map of territorial control in Yemen has changed since the beginning of July, as a result of increased fighting between government forces and the Houthis.
The Houthis claim control of the entire province of Al-Hudaydah after advancing into the western province of Taiz, seizing the coastal city of Mokha and the Red Sea port. Their advance has brought the group closer to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, one of the world’s most important shipping lanes.
On the other hand, government forces have made progress in the northern province of Al-Jawf, adjacent to the Saudi border, and have taken positions near the provincial capital of Al-Hazm. In addition, fighting between the two sides continues on various fronts in the provinces of Marib, Al-Bayda and Al-Dhale.
Yemen has been in crisis since the Houthis seized control of several provinces, including the capital Sanaa, in September 2014. A Saudi-led Arab coalition later intervened in the war in March 2015 to support the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
