Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who is in New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, is busy with several sideline meetings. These meetings discussed various international and regional issues, including Rohingya repatriation, bilateral relations, trade and investment.
On the sidelines of the session, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Myanmar, Julie Bishop, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister. During the meeting, the Prime Minister sought the UN’s cooperation in the early repatriation of the Rohingya.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Barham Salih met the Prime Minister at the Hyatt Grand Central Hotel in New York. During the meeting, he praised Bangladesh’s humanitarian role. At the same time, he assured of continued international cooperation to resolve the Rohingya crisis.
Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Turkish House in New York. During the meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on further strengthening the historic and friendly relations between Bangladesh and Turkey.
The discussions raised the possibility of expanding cooperation in various fields, including economy, trade and investment. They also emphasized the importance of continuing close cooperation and coordination between the two countries on important regional and international issues.
The two leaders also expressed their commitment to creating new areas of cooperation in the future based on mutual interests and common priorities.
In addition, Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Félix-Aime held a sideline meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the UN Headquarters. The meeting discussed bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Haiti and various issues of mutual interest.
The two Prime Ministers also exchanged views on various aspects of regional and international cooperation. They also discussed the possibilities of further strengthening cooperation for mutual benefit and expanding bilateral relations in various fields.
