Professor Muhammad Yunus met with former US President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on the sidelines of the Clinton Global Initiative’s 2026 annual conference in New York. He was invited to address the conference.
Bill Clinton was an early supporter of Professor Yunus’s microfinance concept. He worked with Professor Yunus during his tenure as Governor of Arkansas (1979–1981 and 1983–1992). During that time, an initiative was taken to implement the Grameen Bank microfinance model in Arkansas. This led to the development of a microenterprise loan program for low-income people.
