At the beginning of his speech at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid tribute to those killed and injured in the July-August 2024 mass uprising.
In his speech in Bengali at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday (September 24), he remembered the martyrs and injured in the July-August uprising.
At the beginning of her speech, the Prime Minister said, ‘At the outset, I pay my deepest respects to all the martyred freedom fighters of Bangladesh. I humbly remember the contribution of those who have sacrificed their lives in the struggle to establish democracy, justice and human rights in the country since independence. I also pay my sincere respects to all the martyrs and injured in the mass uprising of the brave students and people against fascism in July-August 2024.’
He said that Bangladesh has now become free from fascism after more than a decade and a half of movement and struggle against fascist rule and exploitation.
The Prime Minister also said that in the fair, free and impartial national elections held on February 12 this year, the people gave the responsibility of running the state to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). For this, she congratulated the democracy-loving people of the country.
Tarique Rahman said, ‘We believe that the people are the source of all our political power.’
