Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Chinese President Xi Jinping
Bangladesh and China have agreed to increase cooperation in financial regulation and to increase the use of local currencies in the settlement of transactions in bilateral trade between the two countries. Bangladesh welcomes Chinese banks to set up branches in the country. This was confirmed in a joint statement after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 3-day official visit to Beijing.
The statement said Bangladesh and China agreed to strengthen coordination on international and multilateral issues. At the same time, in order to jointly protect the common interests of developing countries, they agreed to develop a more integrated position and greater consensus on multilateral issues related to international peace and security, sustainable development, human rights, climate change, energy transition and environmental protection.
The two sides discussed various aspects of the global development initiative presented by Chinese President Xi Jinping. China is ready to exchange experience with Bangladesh on Global Development Initiative (GDI) issue.
China presented the Global Security Initiative (GSI) and Global Civilization Initiative (GCI) to Bangladesh to ensure peace, development and shared prosperity for all.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made an official visit from July 8 to 10 at the invitation of Chinese Prime Minister Li. The Prime Minister returned home on Wednesday (July 10) night after meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Qiang.
During the visit, Sheikh Hasina held a meeting with Xi and met with Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
In a cordial and friendly atmosphere, the two sides had in-depth exchanges of views and reached broad consensus on international and regional issues of bilateral relations and mutual interest.
Bangladesh congratulated the Chinese side on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and praised the country’s historic achievements and transformation into a new era of economic and social development.
Bangladesh appreciated their efforts in all aspects to build China into a great modern socialist country and advance the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts on its modernization path and expressed its sincere desire to realize the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation in due time.
China has praised Bangladesh’s progress in economic and social development and expressed its continued support for Bangladesh’s continued progress towards transitioning from UN Least Developed Country (LDC) status in 2026 and realizing the ‘Smart Bangladesh’ Vision 2041.
Both sides appreciated the strategic partnership of cooperation established in 2016 and agreed that China-Bangladesh relations have reached a new height.- UNB
