The team, which defeated Nepal 2-1 in the final of the SAFF Women’s Championship in Kathmandu on October 30, shared their dreams and struggles with the Chief Advisor at the event.
The captain of the team Sabina Khatun expressed gratitude to the chief advisor and said that they have overcome many obstacles and reached today’s position.
He also said that it is not only the women’s football team but also the women of Bangladesh who usually make their position through many struggles. Sabina also highlighted the struggles of some of her colleagues such as Maria. Maria hails from the famous Kalsindur village in Mymensingh, which contributed six players to the victorious team. Fatherless Maria was raised by her mother as a child.
Other players also shared their experiences. Winger Krishna Rani Sarkar highlighted the difficulties of their stay in Dhaka and midfielder Manika Chakma shared her struggles as a player in a remote area in Laksamchari upazila of Khagrachari. Midfielder Swapna Rani also mentioned the inadequate playing infrastructure at Ranisankail in her home district Dinajpur.
Krishna requested the chief adviser to organize an international friendly match for them, specifically expressing his desire to play against European champions Barcelona.
Professor Yunus asked each player to write down their dreams, struggles and demands and submit them to his office and promised that efforts would be made to fulfill their needs on priority basis.
He said, whatever you want, write and send it without hesitation. We will do our best to meet your needs and fulfill them as soon as possible.
Coach Peter Butler, Manager Mahmuda Akhtar and advisors Asif Mahmud, Supradeep Chakma, Bidhan Chandra Roy and Noorjahan Begum were present on the occasion.
Earlier on Saturday (November 2) at around 11 o’clock, the winners reached the Rashtriya Guest House Yamuna.
