The 55th BOD meeting of Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited was held

The 55th meeting of the ‘Board of Directors’ of Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited (DEW) Narayanganj was held. Chief of Navy Admiral M Nazmul Hasan, chairman of DEW, was present as the chief guest in the meeting. Besides, BOD President Assistant Chief of Navy (Materials) Rear Admiral Khandaker Akhtar Hossain and related senior officers were present in the meeting.

The five-year plan (2024-2028) of the organization was adopted in the meeting. The steps taken in the next 5-year development plan of the yard are operational capacity enhancement, repair and maintenance, infrastructural development, human resource development, conversion to modern shipyard, business expansion plan, green shipyard construction, cost reduction plan, technology transfer plan and budget review and plan implementation. .

Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited is the oldest shipbuilding company in Bangladesh. It was established in 1922 and the institution was modernized in 1989 after independence. But the development of the government institution was hindered due to various reasons. As a result it was closed in 2002. Later in 2006 Bangladesh Navy was given the responsibility of managing the dockyard. Under the efficient leadership of the Bangladesh Navy, the institution has gradually turned from a non-profitable state into one of the most profitable institutions in the country. In order to make the institution more modern and up-to-date, a five-year plan of Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited has been formulated in the 55th BOD meeting under the direction of the Chief of Navy. Through the implementation of which Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited will be transformed into a modern and ‘green’ shipyard with digital and automation facilities. As a result, experts believe that Bangladesh will take a step forward in the international standard shipbuilding industry through the use of indigenous technology and manpower.
