Iranian Ambassador pays courtesy call on President, expresses concern over ongoing conflict

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and reiterated Bangladesh’s condemnation of the Israeli attack on Iranian soil. At the same time, he stressed the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue, compromise and diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.

The President made these remarks during a courtesy call on Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi at Bangabhaban on Thursday (September 10).

During the meeting, the President said that Bangladesh attaches great importance to the long-standing friendly and brotherly relations between Bangladesh and Iran. These relations between the two countries have been built on the basis of deep historical, cultural and people-to-people ties.

The President also mentioned that the creative works and literature of renowned Persian poets and thinkers like Ferdowsi, Sheikh Saadi, Hafiz and Jalaluddin Rumi have had a profound impact on the thinking and culture of the people of this region. He also highlighted the compassion for the people of Iran in the poems and songs of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Noting that import-dependent countries like Bangladesh have been facing a massive energy crisis due to the conflict in the Middle East, the President said that the conflict is having an adverse impact on the global level. He reiterated Bangladesh’s policy position on resolving disputes through dialogue, compromise and diplomatic efforts.

Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of life in Iran, the President said that Bangladesh condemns the Israeli attack on Iranian soil in violation of Iranian sovereignty and international law. He also emphasized the unity of the Muslim Ummah to ensure world peace and stability.

During the meeting, the Iranian ambassador handed over a congratulatory letter to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on behalf of the Iranian President on his election as the President of Bangladesh.

The Iranian ambassador praised Bangladesh’s constructive role in easing tensions in the Middle East. He also recalled with gratitude the participation of the Speaker of the National Assembly of Bangladesh in the funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The ambassador said he hopes Bangladesh and Iran will work together to further strengthen bilateral relations in various fields.
