Nomination papers of 8 candidates were withdrawn, 33 people remained in 11 posts

Correspondent: The election of the executive committee of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) for the period 2024-26 will be held on May 8. According to the election schedule, Wednesday was the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers. According to the latest information, a total of 8 candidates have withdrawn their names from the election. As a result, 33 candidates are contesting for 11 posts of BASIS Executive Committee.

24 candidates are contesting in the general membership category in the BASIS executive committee elections. Apart from this, 9 candidates are contesting for 3 posts of associate, affiliate and international members. It should be noted that 8 members will be elected from among the general members and 1 member will be elected from among the associate, affiliate and international members in the 11 positions of the executive committee.

M. Asif Rahman, Md. is competing for the post of general member in the election. Mostafizur Rahman, Mohammad Aminullah, Mohammad Risalat Siddiqui, Liaquat Hossain, Uttam Kumar Pal, Mir Shahrukh Islam, ASM Rafiq Ullah, Syeda Nafisa Reza, Iqbal Ahmed Fakhrul Hasan, Imran Hossain, Taufiqul Karim, Mostafa Rafiqul Islam, Md. Shafiul Alam, Manjurul Alam, Syeda Naushad Jahan, Niaz Morshed, KAM Rashedul Majid, Didarul Alam, Md. Shahibur Rahman Khan, Farzana Kabir, Rashidul Hasan, Russell T Ahmed and AKM Ahmedul Islam.

Syed Abdullah Zayed, Arman Ahmed Khan and NM Rafsan Jani are contesting for the post of associate members. Lutfi Haider Chowdhury, Biplab Ghosh and Abdul Aziz are contesting for affiliate posts and Abu Mohammad Rashed, AHM Hasinul Quddus and Syed Mohammad Kamal are contesting for international membership posts.

TIM Nurul Kabir, chairman of BASIS’s election management board, told Prothom Alo over the phone this evening that the final list of candidates will be published on April 20. On April 22, an introductory meeting of the candidates in the BASIS election will be held on the initiative of the Election Board. On May 8, the polls will be accepted, counted and the results will be announced.

It should be noted that the total number of voters in the Basis elections this time is 1 thousand 464. Among them 932 ordinary, 389 associates, 134 affiliates and 9 international member voters. Total membership of BASIS is 2 thousand 401.
