A group of people present at Hania’s funeral
The funeral of Ismail Haniya, the former political head of Hamas, was held after Friday prayers at the Imam Muhammad Ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Thousands of people came there to pay their last respects.
After the prayers, Hania’s body will be taken to the Lusail Royal Cemetery.
According to Al Jazeera news, security measures have been tightened around Haniya prayers. Because, in addition to the Islamic countries, dignitaries from different countries of the world have participated in the funeral.
Leaders of Palestinian groups such as Fatah, the party of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and Islamic Jihad, which is at war with Israel, are also reportedly present. Hania’s family members are also paying their last respects by attending the funeral.
Meanwhile, as cities across the Middle East take part in commemorations for Haniyeh, many worry about the possibility of retaliatory attacks by Iran and its allies, particularly Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
Sara Abdelshafi, 32, who attended Hania’s funeral in Doha, said Israel has committed many massacres recently. But I’m sure the Palestinian and regional resistance will be able to stand up to them. Because Israel is behaving like a spoiled child and no one is standing up to them. So we have to stand up for ourselves.
