Khalil al-Hayya, the deputy head of Hamas in Gaza, delivered an important message after attending Ismail Haniya’s funeral in Doha. According to Al Jazeera, Haniya told family members, “We are sure that his (Hania’s) blood will bring victory, dignity and liberation.”
Al-Hayya is seen as a possible successor to Haniya. In the speech, he added, Hania is no more ‘better or dearer’ than the thousands of children killed in the Gaza war.
Some 39,480 Palestinians, including more than 16,000 children, have been killed in Gaza since October, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, the Associated Press news agency reported.
The top leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniya, was killed in an attack last Wednesday (Tuesday night) in Tehran, the capital of Iran. He was buried after a funeral in Qatar on Friday. Hamas blamed Israel for Haniya’s murder.
The fear of a regional war in the Middle East has intensified in that incident. Meanwhile, Türkiye and Pakistan have announced a day of mourning in honor of Hania.
Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political wing of Hamas, lived in Doha, the capital of Qatar, along with other members of the same wing of the Palestinian independence organization.
