Jahangirnagar University
After eight long years, the dates for the selection of deans of various faculties of Jahangirnagar University have been announced. This election will be held on May 15 at Jahangirnagar University Club. This information was informed in a circular signed by Abu Hasan, the registrar of the university and election returning officer.
According to the notification, the dean election will be held as per Section 26(5) of the Jahangirnagar University Act 1973 and related clauses/sub-sections of election related statutes, ordinances and rules.
According to the notification, the temporary voter list of the election will be published on April 22. Objections can be filed on the provisional voter list till 2 pm on April 24 and the final voter list will be published on April 25. Nomination papers can be submitted in the approved form to the returning officer till 2 pm on April 29. Nomination papers will be selected on April 30. The list of valid candidates will be published on May 2 and the withdrawal of candidature will be open till 2 pm on May 6. Apart from this, the final list of candidates will be published on May 7. Elections will be held on May 15 from 9 am to 2 pm.
Jahangirnagar University has a total of six faculties including Arts and Humanities, Mathematics and Physics, Sociology, Biology, Business Studies and Law. The last dean election was held on May 10, 2016.
After a long time, the teachers of the university have welcomed the initiative of dean election. Sohail Ahmed, vice-president of the university’s teachers’ association, said that the vice-chancellor has taken necessary measures for the selection of the dean. They welcomed this initiative. According to the Ordinance of 1973, the first step in the management of the University is to ensure the representation of teachers in the Syndicate. Besides, he also demanded the election of the syndicate very quickly.
