Jahanara Alam, former captain of the Bangladesh women’s cricket team.
Former Bangladesh captain Jahanara Alam has not yet retired from international cricket. She has expressed her desire to play for the national team again. However, since she has been out of international cricket for a long time, she will have to pass a fitness test and provide proof of performance in domestic cricket to return to the national team.
Jahanara last played for the Bangladesh national team about two years ago. She then withdrew from the national team, considering her mental health. Later, the pacer moved to Australia, where she continued to play club cricket.
Meanwhile, Jahanara revealed the mental and sexual harassment she had suffered in December last year. Now, the former captain has expressed her interest in returning to the national team to the new board.
In this regard, Rafiqul Islam Babu, chairman of the women’s department of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), told the Dhaka Post, “She said a long time ago that she wants to return, she told the board. She wants to play for the country again. Now, if you want to play, you have to follow the normal procedures. You have to play domestically, pass the fitness test. Then you have to perform regularly. The rest is up to the selectors.”
Women’s team selector Sajjad Ahmed also expressed a positive attitude towards the possibility of Jahanara returning to the national team.
He said, “We will welcome her if she wants to return. Since Jahanara has not played an international match for a long time, she will have to take a fitness test. Then she will have to perform domestically. We will see how her skills are, if she does well, she will be considered.”
The BCB will also decide on Jahanara’s participation in the upcoming domestic cricket. In this regard, Sajjad Ahmed said, ‘Apart from that, there are domestic games ahead, the team is fine. The BCB will see which team to give her to, but first she has to return.’
