Uranium fuel for the second unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant was supposed to arrive from Russia. But the scheduled flight could not reach Bangladesh due to the lack of permission to use Pakistani airspace. There are various discussions going on in the political arena regarding this issue.
This time, filmmaker Sohel Rana expressed his anger and directly sought an explanation from the Pakistan High Commission.
In a post on social media, Sohel Rana wrote, “Pakistan High Commission, I sincerely want to know whether you did not allow the Russian plane carrying uranium for the Rooppur nuclear power plant to use Pakistani airspace. Please tell me the truth.”
He then wrote, “If we pass, our answer will not be very good news.”
Sohel Rana’s statement came at a time when the uranium shipment from Russia for the second unit of Rooppur failed to reach Bangladesh on time.
Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam said the flight could not be operated on time as the plane did not receive permission to use Pakistani airspace. However, the reason why Pakistan did not give permission is not yet certain.
It is learned that the uranium shipment was supposed to arrive in Bangladesh on September 24. Later, Russia proposed a new date for sending the shipment in the first week of October.
